Established seven years ago, the company sells cosmetics and fancy dress items online and from its base in Merthyr’s St Tydfil Square shopping centre.Set up by managing director Steven Morgan with just £80, the company has increased its turnover five fold in the last three years.Last year alone its annual turnover reached nearly £500,000 – more than double the previous year’s figure of £242,209. Mr Morgan said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded Enterprising Retailer of the Year. “We have come a long way since we started seven years ago and it is fantastic that there is an outlet in Merthyr to recognise the hard work of the businesses based here.
“We try to offer our customers something a bit different. In particular we have recently rolled out our buy and reserve scheme where customers can pay weekly for their purchases. We feel this has worked particularly well with our customer base especially during the recession.
“I would whole heartedly encourage anyone who is thinking of entering the awards next year to do so. It has been a great experience and we are very proud of what we have achieved.”
Organised by Merthyr Business Club and supported by Merthyr Tydfil council, the awards were set up to celebrate and encourage innovative enterprise within the borough. Rob Taylor, chairman of Merthyr Business Club, said: “The Merthyr Business Awards were once again a great success and are continuing to grow from strength to strength. All of the entries this year were very strong.
“Cosmetics4U is just one example of the successful entries we received which ranged from dog trainers to Polish food outlets highlighting the diverse business talent that Merthyr has to offer. “The awards were created to recognise and praise businesses in Merthyr. In such a tough economic climate innovation in business is something to be celebrated.
